Civil Ceremony

You may find Civil Weddings in Slovenia surprising. You might expect a bland state ceremony - but it's quite the opposite! Because of the importance of the civil wedding in Slovenian tradition, the state authorities strive to make the ceremony a memorable occasion.

It is attended by two State officials. The Registrar welcomes the bridal couple and advises them of their legal rights and obligations using a standard text proscribed by the state authorities. You will find the words are very enlightened. It is a legal requirement that the Registrar oversees your signatures and those of your witnesses when you complete the wedding register during the civil ceremony. This document is held by the state authority as a record of your marriage.
The Authorised Person performs the wedding. This part of the ceremony consists of proscribed texts for your vows and you are able to introduce readings and music to personalise your service.
The service is held in Slovene with a court translator present to translate to your own language.
At the conclusion of the service the Registrar will present you with 4 copies of the wedding certificate in a presentation folder. This is not a copy of the register you signed earlier. It is an internationally recognised multi-lingual wedding certificate which can only be issued after the register has been signed.

How long to does it take to organise?

The time required to organise a wedding depends on the proposed date, size and style you are seeking as well as your nationality. Primavera Bled can arrange small weddings with up to 15 guests with the standard services and a date outside of the peak season within 4 to 8 weeks. Please contact us for more information.

Peak season weddings from May to September, larger guest lists, and additional services all require a longer notification time to ensure the availability of services and venues on the requested date. You should plan to confirm your wedding date with Primavera Bled at least 6 months and preferably 1 year in advance.
